Behind-the-Scenes of the Pirate Cruise

Mike and I shot the Pirate Cruise on a Saturday afternoon...so, I thought, why not? I'll bring my boys and my better half can watch them while I work! It was fun! And, I was right, the little guys really enjoyed it! The weather was perfect...sunny and the Sound was calm. I was a little nervous about parking but it was easy...the parking lot was right next to where the Quinnipiack is docked on Long Wharf in New Haven. We were greeted by this awesome guy -- Neal Kirk -- a "pirate for hire" who we met in the springtime at the New London Custom House Museum. He's wonderful...a real character. My son was so excited to meet "Captain Kidd"...and, boy, Neal didn't disappoint! Did I just spell that right? Anyways, the trip was pretty long -- 2 and a half hours -- which was a bit much for my energetic 3 year old...but, all the other kids were fine. The crew really got the guests involved by having them help raise the sails...and Captain Kidd and his female cohort kept us totally entertained with Pirate songs and games. "Sweat rag"? Don't ask! When I mention to friends that we did this, no one seems to know about it....so, here goes: look into the Quinnipiack...it's a very cool schooner (red sails!) with an even cooler environmental mission to clean up the Sound. The ship and it's crew offer several public cruises...and the Pirate Adventure is worth the trip! Yo, ho, ho! Ahoy, mateys!
